Hazelwood protest greets Brumby in Ballarat
20 members of the local climate group BREEZE joined with the Climate Action Centre in a Replace Hazelwood Protest today in the regional town of Ballarat.
Premier John Brumby was forced to stop his car and get out and talk to the protest as he tried to enter the Mercure Hotel, where he was due to make a further regional policy announcement.
BREAZE called on the Premier, John Brumby, to commit to replacing the Hazelwood Power Station with clean energy by 2012.
“Hazelwood is a dinosaur,” said BREAZE Community Campaigner, Andrew Bray. “It’s old; its the dirtiest power station in Australia and it supplies a good proportion of Ballarat’s electricity. In 2010 we simply don’t need to be producing this much pollution to make electricity.”
